Conquering the Slopes

Despite the rain this past weekend, the weather ahead is going to be sunny and mild. If you've been hibernating all winter, Jack Frost won't be nipping at your nose. Temperatures this week will be rising above 10 degrees! So for those of you that still haven't been out, come check out the slopes as we enter the last stretch of winter.

With spring quickly approaching, I've been rushing to the hill every spare second I have – and I'm not the only one! Brimacombe still has a nice coating of snow and many people are here to take advantage of that. With 14 runs and two terrain parks still open, March Break is the perfect opportunity to grab your gear and have some fun! It's still not too late to try skiing or snowboarding and I promise you'll have tons of fun in the process!

On a personal note, I used to love summer – winter's arch nemesis. However, after this past winter, I've fallen in love with my snowboard. After you take up a winter sport, you welcome those fluffy snowflakes with open arms. When you're at the top of the hill, the scenery is breathtaking. The cold weather you once despised is now balanced out by a cup of hot chocolate in the warmth of a chalet. You don't have to hide from winter – if you take up skiing or snowboarding, winter will have to hide from you.

It's been awhile since I last blogged because I just couldn't get away from the slopes, so I'll give you guys an update on what the past few weeks have been like for me.

To recap, my first day on a snowboard was January 11, 2010. After taking my first few lessons with Nicky, I decided it was time to go big or go home. I learned a lot on the beginner hill and was ready to test my skills on a bigger run. As I got off the chair lift (and fell), the first trail I decided to conquer was Park Avenue. Did I fall? Yes. Did I get back up every time? Of course! I laughed and tumbled my way down the hill grinning from ear to ear.

Want to laugh with me? Check out my videos. They cover my beginner lessons, techniques I learned and how I progressed over the season. And yes, there are plenty of shots of me falling.
